The Brothers of the Sabre Line enters its next chapter at InterTabac 2026 with the introduction of Flamboyant and Custodian, two new series inspired by contrasting figures of the Napoleonic era. The four new cigars will be presented from September 15–17, 2026, in Dortmund, Germany, before shipping to markets worldwide from mid-September.

First introduced at PCA 2023, the Brothers of the Sabre Line grew from Jeremy Casdagli’s fascination with the Napoleonic Wars and the role Napoleon’s Grand Armée played in spreading cigar smoking across Europe. The collection honours generals from both France and the opposing Coalition whose stories combined military distinction with a connection to tobacco. Each series is built around a historical personality, with its own blend and vitolas developed to reflect the character of the general it commemorates.

The collection began in 2023 with Brave, dedicated to France’s Marshal Michel Ney, and Forrader, honouring Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. In 2024, it expanded with Epicurist, inspired by French cavalry commander General Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle, and Vater, a tribute to Austrian Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz.

Flamboyant and Custodian now bring the collection to six generals and twelve vitolas.

Flamboyant honours Joachim Murat, one of Napoleon’s most celebrated cavalry commanders and later King of Naples. Known for his daring tactics, magnetic leadership and striking presence, Murat embodied the flamboyance suggested by the series name. One of the most memorable stories associated with him took place at Tabor Bridge in 1805, where Murat and General Lannes approached the Austrian defenders, produced a cigar and a pipe, and bluffed their way across the strategically important crossing without a battle.

Custodian turns to the Coalition side and Lieutenant-General Sir Hudson Lowe. A British officer whose Napoleonic career included service alongside Czar Alexander I and Field Marshal von Blücher, Lowe took part in the campaigns that culminated in Napoleon’s defeat. In 1816 he was appointed Governor of St Helena, becoming the custodian of the exiled Napoleon during the final years of the former emperor’s life. Contemporary accounts and satirical prints also connect Lowe’s tenure on the island with the supply of cigars and pipe tobacco to Longwood House.

Both new series are blended especially for Casdagli Cigars by Hendrik Kelner Jr. at the Kelner Boutique Factory in the Dominican Republic. Flamboyant features Dominican filler with a Dominican binder and Ecuadorian wrapper, while Custodian combines Domnican, Zimbabwean and USA fillers with a Dominican binder and Ecuadorian wrapper. Each series will debut in two vitolas: Toro and Piramide.

The Brothers of the Sabre story will continue beyond the 2026 releases. The final two remaining blends are currently scheduled for release in 2028, completing the collection with four further vitolas dedicated to generals from France and Russia who played prominent roles during the Napoleonic era.

“What continues to fascinate me about this project is that every general gives us a completely different story to tell. Murat and Lowe could hardly have been more different in character, yet both have remarkable connections to the Napoleonic era and to tobacco. Translating those personalities into the Flamboyant and Custodian cigars is exactly what the Brothers of the Sabre Line is about,” says Jeremy Casdagli, Founder of Casdagli Cigars.
